Comp. Of Mrs. Chas. Rithmiller Sharpsburg Pa Stoneware Miniature Whiskey Jug:
COMP. OF MRS. CHAS. RITHMILLER SHARPSBURG PA STONEWARE MINIATURE WHISKEY JUG
I have been dragging home "goodies" forthe past 40-50 years. Tonight I am offering (due to the wife's desire to rid the house of fine collectible stoneware) the following miniature pre-prohibition advertising stoneware mini jug with the following scratch advertising.
Mrs. CHAS. RITHMILLER
18TH & MAIN
This is an extremely rare miniature jug as it has a woman's name. I have collected jugs for many years and I have only seen 5-6 with women's names; I bought them all. In the the late 1800's/early 1900's, when this jug was made, women owning businesses were an extremerarity. These mini jugs were given, filled with whisky, by merchants, whiskey wholesalers and dealers and the like, to favorite customers....especially atChristmas time. This little jug stands approximately 3.5 inches tall andhas nice glaze andscratch advertising. It is also unusual as it has the cream color on the top and the brown on the bottom, plus these two tone jugs rarely had scratch advertising. There are really no negatives here, as it is about as perfectas you will find, having only a tiny nick out of the top rim. It displaysbeautifully and you will probably never see another one like it in your lifetime. You see Pennsylvania jugs from time to time but Sharpsburg jugs are pretty scarce.
This little jug was made by the John Bauer Pottery from Louisville KY. John was a brother to J.A. Bauer Pottery the owner of the pottery in Paducah KY. This little jug is pre-prohibition and is beautiful considering it isover 100 years old.
This will make a great addition to any whiskey jug, stoneware or pottery collection so don't miss this opportunity.
