Not only a nice Confederate newspaper, but one from the capital of the Confederacy. The front page begins with: "The War News" which gives updates from various fronts on the Civil War which includes a letter datelined: "Near Johnsonville" and signed in type: N. B. Forrest, and another from Tuscumbia, Alabama, signed in type: G. T. Beauregard. Many ads on the ftpg. as well.

Also on the ftpg. is correspondence headed: "Camp Lee's Cavalry Division" which has a letter signed in type: J. A. Early. Also: "Another Yankee Merchant Gone" "The Courts" and a few other items.

The back page has a lengthy editorial, the first topic of discussion being interesting, beginning: "The most popular hero in the Yankee country at this moment, not excepting Sheridan, is Captain Collins...He has surprised & captured the Florida Confederate steamship..." with more (see). Also on the bkpg. is: "Latest News From the North" which includes a significant subhead: "the Election--Lincoln Re-Elected by an Overwhelming Majority" with several reports on the election returns from the Northern newspapers (see). Also: "The Northern Papers on the Election" "Election Night at the North--How the News of Lincoln's Election was Received" "Incidents of the Election in New York" "Butler's Headquarters in New York on Election Day" "The Threats of the Enemy--A Secret Conspiracy in Richmond" "The Vote of Maryland" "Terrorism Caused in New York by Beast Butler" "Splendid Success of Forrest" "Particulars of the Capture of the Florida" "Very Latest From the North" "Lincoln's Election Conceded--He Calls for a Million of Men--Atlanta Reported Burned--Probable Capture of the Tallahassee" "From Hood's Army" and a few other smaller items.

Single sheet with a one column masthead (common late in the war as most paper mills were in the North), in very nice, clean condition.
