An original and rare Civil War carte de visite [CDV] photograph of Confederate GENERAL JOHN HUNT MORGAN and his wife Martha, published on the mount of an unknown photographer, but came in a CDV album from New Orleans. Very good condition, lightly enhanced and tinted.....JOHN HUNT MORGAN [1825-1864] of Kentucky served in the Mexican War, and in the Civil War as a Confederate General and Cavalry officer. He was best known for his "Morgan's Raiders", who constantly harassed Union Army supply lines in Kentucky and Tennessee. He led his group into Ohio and Indiana in the famed Morgan's Raid, but many were captured and imprisoned. Morgan himself, and several other officers, escaped from the Ohio Penitentiary and rejoined the rebel army. He was killed in action by Union cavalry at Greenville, Tennessee in 1864.....An historic image of the daring Rebel raider that belongs in any Civil War collection......Guaranteed original....$3.00 shipping......
