Confederate Civil War 26th North Carolina Csa Soldiers Letter 1862 New Bern:
Up for offer is a nice original civil war letter written by Confederate soldier William H. Patterson while serving in the 26th North Carolina Infantry. The letter is very patriotic including the mention of the loss of Roanoke Island and that they killed 1000 of the enemy while only losing 8 men. The letter also states that the entire Brigade is "Burning for revenge" and that there is 15,000 of the bravest of the brave ready to meet the enemy. The 1 sheet 2 page (front & back) letter measures 7.5 X 9.75 inches. The letter is in nice shape considering the age with some period folds with some slight separation along the fold lines (nothing major) and light age foxing/wear and a few ink stains. Also an uneven cut left border (no doubt period) with a small tear. The letter is in the original envelope which is in well worn condition as seen. Guaranteed authentic in every regard. The 26th North Carolina was a great confederate unit that saw action in several major civil war battles. William H. Patterson fought with the 26th NC from 6/10/1861 until he surrendered at Appomattox Court House on 4/9/1865.
