Confederate Southern Civil War Token Store Card Clothing New Orleans La For Sale
Hello Everyone! Thanks for stopping by Mr.Jerry’s sales!
This is part of a small older collection of US Civil War tokens or “store cards”. Please see my other sales for the rest of this collection as we will gladly combine postage to save you money. These are not my normal forte of militaria so please feel free to ask questions if you need and additional information or would like additional photos. All of these are in the holders they were in when I acquired them, and the photos were taken through the plastic. I know most of you know the history of these, but for those who may not, here is a bit of history from the web: Civil War tokens are token coins that were privately minted and distributed in the United States between 1861 and 1864. They were used mainly in the Northeast and Midwest. The widespread use of the tokens was a result of the scarcity of government-issued cents during the Civil War. Civil War tokens became illegal after the United States Congress passed a law on April 22, 1864 prohibiting the issue of any one or two-cent coins, tokens or devices for use as currency. On June 8, 1864 an additional law was passed that forbade all private coinage. Civil War tokens are divided into three types—store cards, patriotic tokens, and sutler tokens. All three types were utilized as currency, and are differentiated by their designs. The collectible value of the tokens is determined chiefly by their rarity.

Please see the photos for overall condition. Let me know if you need to see any more. Please keep in mind, in general, my items are old vintage items from barns, basements and attics where they have been for many, many years, some 60+ years. They may be a bit dusty or dirty, smell a bit, and may have the occasional cobweb or animal hair on them. We won’t send out anything in a horrible state, but we don’t have them dry cleaned before we sell them. Please keep this in mind if you have allergies or other concerns.
