Cowboy Pleasure Roping Trail Horse Saddle Western Vintage Ranch Using Breaking For Sale
VINTAGE OLD-TIMER ROPING / RANCH / HUNTING SADDLE
HAND TOOLED-LOOK AT FENDERS!
Up for your consideration is a nice, vintage hand-built
roping saddle.
This saddle is completely original sans the leather
wrapped stirrups included with the saddle. This mid 20th century
saddle is in fabulous using condition!
So all you buyers know exactly what you are
offerding on, I will give as thorough of a description as possible…so please bear
with the narrative. I would rather get
an information overload than not enough anytime!
First of all you will note that the seat size is approximately
14 1/2” which is pretty unusual for a saddle of this vintage. The people and
the horses were smaller back in the day, so most adult saddles were so much
smaller that most mistake them for kid’s saddles today! The gullet is also a good 61/2-7” as you can
see by the picture with the ruler. This is also unusual in the fact that the
horses were smaller/narrower then too. There is a nice high back and the seat is
actually remarkably comfortable for a hard slick seat. The fenders do show
surface aging in places…they are however still very pliable with no dry or
stiff spots in them. The off side fender has a repair in it which is also shown
in the pictures.
It has a nice dally horn on it which has been
recently recovered with rubber. The leather underneath the rubber is clean and
without blemish…my guess would be that it has been covered most, if not all of
its life! The swells are prominent and should provide you with as much support
as you will ever need without locking you in permanently like the old bear-trap
styles!
The tree underneath is super solid with no give in
it when tested. It is rawhide wrapped hardwood. The strings have been
replaced.
This saddle would be ideal for ranch work, hunting
or working the arena. It’s still comfortable and solid enough for anything you
can throw at it. It would be an amazing youth work saddle…or use it to ride out
those green colts (it would be a shame to see it damaged though-it is pretty
cool)! You wanna colt breaking saddle I will be listing one this weekend!
The stirrups are not original and they are bell
shaped leather wrapped bent wood. When I bought it, it had no stirrups, so a
couple of the photos may show it that way (taken right after it had been gone
through, checked, and cleaned). The hobble straps have also been replaced. The rigging
is a full double with large diameter stainless rings. I wouldn’t hesitate to
put this on a horse right now and ride it. The real sheepskin liner is in great condition
with just a couple areas on the top front (near the gullet opening) which are a
bit thinner…almost like it went for a haircut. I have also included a picture
so you can see for yourself. I cannot find a maker mark anywhere. It is
obviously a mid 20th century handmade American saddle though!
The most unusual thing about this saddle is…and
look closely….it has been hand tooled. The body of the saddle (except the seat)
has the typical scroll-floral design. It is not stamped, it does not look like
a template design, it’s hand carved. The fenders are so cool. There is a cowboy
getting on or off his roping horse. I have seen lots of scenes carved into
fenders over the years, and have to say this is definitely unique!
I have gone over the saddle while I soaped, oiled,
and treated it with Saddle Butter (leather conditioner). My description should
answer all your questions. If not, please feel free to email me any other
questions you might have. I have described it to the best of my ability….but am
only human, so once again please ask questions prior to offerding.
SADDLE SPECS:
SADDLE COMES WITH:
I have included photos of the entire saddle...all
the way around. If there are photographs that you would like to see (of a
particular area) please email me.

mail...so I will always make sure you are covered in case anything happens. I
will ship elsewhere, but please email me with your shipping zip/postal code so
I can get you a quote before you offer.
If you peruse my other sales I give you the standard speech
regarding never again shipping things to Spain. Don't believe me? Look at my
response. It was perfect. Then against my better judgment (I knew the guy had
problems communicating in English), I went ahead and shipped to him. He was very
angry when he had to pay import duties to his country. He insisted that it was
my responsibility to pay it. I even offered to take the perfect item back. In
response he marred my 100% record! I was angry at first, now I find myself
amused. Anyway I am going to hold fast on this. No shipping to Spain...or
anywhere else that a language barrier prevents communication. I am not
responsible for import duties, so if you are in another country and want this
awesome saddle please find out if you are going to be charged those fees first.
If you email me your postal code I will be happy to look up International
shipping for you. If you live in the lower 48 states the shipping is a flat
rate...and I will cover the cost of packing materials, box, and insurance.
Generally
shipping to Canada is going to run right in the neighborhood of 100.00-115.00
for this size/weight of saddle. From past experience it will cost between
110.00 and 125.00 to ship it to the U.K., Ireland, and most EU locations. If
you are in a location other than that (or you don’t understand the wording in
this sale –Spain-) I am afraid I will not be able to ship it to you.
Local pickup is always free.
THANK YOU!
PLEASE NOTE: If you have no intention of following through
on your high offer, please do not waste my time or the time of fellow buyers.
This is not a game, so please don’t treat it as though it is. offerding on this
sale is started low and will sell to the highest buyer, don’t lose out on
this incredible saddle-offer now. Good Luck! I will ship quickly (fast as I can)!

arrived and are exactly as described. If there are issues with the box, please
let me know. I will contact the insurance carrier. It would be greatly
appreciated if you would then leave me positive response, so that I know you
are satisfied. I will in turn do the same for you!
