Custard Slag Glass And Brass Shade & Support For Gas, Early Electric Table Lamp:
Up for sale is this large glass and brass square pyramidal dome shade, with support spider for a gas or early electric table lamp or newell post lamp. Was originally fitted to an upright mantle gas table lamp. The shade was dismantled, cleaned and repolished because it needed some of the soldered joints inside re-soldering . It was as black as the 'spider' support .
The shade measures 12 inches square at the base and 9 inches high. When sitting on the spider it is 12&1/2 inches tall. The brass spider has an approx 3/8ths inch hole in the square brass plate which goes over a gas lamp thread, and is secured when the burner is screwed on.
Shade sits nicely on the arms, can be lifted off to light the gas, if used on electric you could wire the shade onto the arms for added security.
As you can see, one custard glass panel has cracked across, could be taken out ( the glass holder plates unscrew for maintenance ) and glued with 'glass bond' or replaced.
Looks incredible lit. A rare survivor, rather heavy and bulky.
Will be very carefully packed !, hence the postage because of the size of the box required.
