J. E. CALDWELL SILVER TEA SET c1860 DESC. IN FAMILY MAJ. JOHN GOULD, UNION important mid-19th century J.E. Caldwell silver tea service.

Descended in the family of Union Officer Major John mead Gould.


Born 1839 in Portland Maine.

Joined the 29th Maine Regiment 1861.

Rose to the rank of Major and saw action throughout the war, writing a journal

now housed in the Center for Maine History.


Raised egg shape with bright cut engraved center shield suspended from ribbon and

bow and floral.

United by garland and cascading floral sprays.

Cover with leaf framed bud finial.

Acanthus crown spout with wavy panel fluting.

Rolled tongue cap C-scroll handle, retains original heat stops.

Atop three acanthus cap lion paw and claw feet.


Script engraved \"LCB\" for the original family member of Major Gould.


This c1860 Major John Gould silver teapot is 9 1/2 inches

and the set 52 standard ounces.

Hallmarked as shown.


In fine condition.


Rich silver patina throughout.

Retains near original detail.
