NATIVEGOLD QUARTZSPECIMENfrom the MOTHER LODE Ruler is 1/4\" wide (6 mm). U.S. 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter.
Specimen weight: .28 Gram - 4.3 Grains (Troy)Sizes, each piece: 6.7 & 7.7 mm long
If you\'ve an eye for gold straight from the earth, check out these two small quartz chunks from theSierra Nevada Mtns. They weigh a combined 4.3 grains (Troy). The residual orange-staining, sometimes referred to as \'blood\', is residual iron oxidation. By the way, they both show visible gold. I don\'t paste\'pounded gold\' or spray gold-colored paintonbarren rock. Refractory ores, whichneed to beheated and run through special processes to release theminute amount of gold locked up inside, aren\'t usually my thing. When I do sell sulphides, you\'ll be able to see gold associated with the pyrites. Gold and pyrite do occur together, but not in this instance. You won\'t need tocrush and treatmy rocks withcyanide solution to get at the gold. We\'re not dealing in micron Au. Ideal in genuine high-grade,naturally-occurring gold quartz with visible gold, both as specimen and as jewelry-gradeslab.Such rich rocks and lapidary rougharehard to findandexpensive to obtain.

MY FIRST NUGGET

My first nugget, found back in 1980,came from Arizona\'s Hassayampa river. They called it the \'upside down river\' because, most of the year, there was no surface water. Instead, this seldom-seen, \'liquid gold\' ran down onbedrock beneath several feet of sediment. My\'eureka moment\' wasonlyas big as a pea, but it wouldn\'t have produced any more excitementif it had been the size of a softball. Oddly enough, some other miner had left it and several other nice flakes of gold in a pile of discarded concentrates. Maybe the pile had been \'salted\', intended as bait for some unsuspecting investor looking for a rich claim to purchase or lease. Who cared? To me, that nugget represented a major prize, so when my favorite old-time prospector/mentor/desert rat suggested there might be gold remaining, I couldn\'t sink my pan into that pile fast enough.Like so many possessed/smitten gold miners, I carried my recent findswith me all the time. Man, talk about \'cheap thrills\'. Every hour orso,I\'d have to take it outand admirethat small goldenorbshimmeringin the sunshine. Gold miners are a kooky, uncomplicated, aka simple-minded bunch.Arizona\'s a right proper setting for those hankeringto live off the grid. Lord knows it\'s not easy living off the fat of the land. Trust me, those Bradshaws are a rugged, inhospitable mountain range. Still, weary travelers might not go hungry should they tarry along the trail and drop into one of our encampments. We amongst the gold mining cadre often had a pot of jackrabbit stewsuspended over a steel grate and simmeringover a bed of coals. After 3 or 4 days, it grew both heartier and tastier as we fattened it up withband-tail pigeons, cottontails, gambel quail, orthe odd shake-tail. Javelina were alsoplentiful in that heavy chaparral country. An adult could be rendered quite tender by covering and pitting it overnight.

Thanks forchecking out our digs.
