Beautifulcollection of 128 watercolor prints bound in this limited edition folio-sizebook titled, Iconografia dos DeusesAfricanos no Candomble de Bahia.Prints are of watercolor paintings by Brazilian artist Hector JulioParide Bernabo, otherwise known as Carybe.The art depicts African-Brazilian religious cults – mixing African godswith Catholic saints, mixed also with ordinary, colorful figures of everydaylife in Brazil. First edition, limited to 5000 copies. Bahia: Raizes, 1980.Text in Portuguese by Jorge Amado, Pierre Verger, and Waldeloir Rego.

Condition isvery good. The exterior has mild wear and bumping to corners. Mild soiling to linenedges and backstrip, while glossy illustrated front and back cover boardsremain clean and bright. Interior clean, unmarked, hinges strong and undamaged.All print pages clean and bright. Two attached tie ribbons are present, usedfor keeping book closed. A handsome copy of this collection of Carybe’s works!

Carybeproduced over 5000 pieces of work in his lifetime; he even illustrated novelswritten by Latin American authors such as Jorge Amado and Gabriel GarciaMarquez; and his murals have brightened the walls of some American airports.Carybe was born in Argentina, but spent most of his life in Brazil, where hedied in 1997.
