Celtic Cast Iron Wall Plaque Vintage Eire Harp 21" Ireland Irish Post Office For Sale
CELTIC CAST IRON WALL PLAQUE Vintage EIRE HARP 21" Ireland IRISH POST OFFICE
An original Irish Cast Iron Wall Plaque with the image of a Celtic Harp above the word Eire.
We are pleased to present this Celtic Cast Iron Wall Plaque for your consideration. The Celtic Harp in the center of the Plaque has been used as the state symbol of Ireland since the early 1900's, and a plaque of this sort would have been used to identify key government buildings including the Irish Post Office. The Plaque was acquired by Laurence and Sally Martin on an episode of the new Travel Channel series "Baggage Battles" (S02E06 in Dublin, Ireland which first aired in the fall of 2012). We've included some clips from the episode (see last 18 pictures).
The Plaque measures 21 inches high, 16 inches wide, and 1-1/2 inches deep. It weighs a hefty 17-3/4 pounds. Unlike the commonly seen reproductions, our Plaque is much bigger and heavier, as would be expected for an item to be mounted to the outside wall of a government building.
The surface of the Plaque shows occasional surface rust, especially on the back side. Remnants of the original backing paper are still found on the back. There is a small area with a smoother surface found on the front (see 5th picture, looking towards upper right) which may be a small repair, or manufacturing flaw, but not a big enough area to be especially noticeable. There are no fractures or other damage, and we rate the overall condition as very good (see pictures).
Don't pass up this opportunity to obtain a real Celtic Cast Iron Wall Plaque, as found at an sale in Dublin, Ireland by Laurence and Sally Martin!
