Stunning, one-of-a-kind Freemason ceremonial sword and scabbard, owned by George K. Ringling.The sword was manufactured by Henderson & Ames. The blade is engraved THE HENDERSON-AMES CO., KALAMAZOO, MICH., a well known company that made uniforms and regalia and served lodges, secret societies, and other social organizations for forty years (1893-1933): "... many of its products —particularly its swords— have become heirlooms and collectors items, which continue to carry the company's legacy all over the world." (Kris Rzepczynski, Kalamazoo Public Library)The guard has an ornamental oval design with the Latin phrase IN HOC SIGNO VINCES ("in this sign you will conquer").Leather carrying case has metal plate hand-engraved G.K. RINGLING. Blade and scabbard are engraved GEORGE K. RINGLING.Sword measures approx. 39" long with a guard of approx 6" across. The sword comes complete with scabbard, leather carrying case, and cloth pouch.This beautiful item was part of the estate of a Hollywood luminary. Although how he obtained the sword is unclear, we do know that one of his relatives possibly worked with the Ringing Bros. circus and renowned lion tamer Clyde Beatty.
