Channel Islands 1942 Rare Hitler Postcard Paris To Jersey Redirected To Guernsey For Sale
Very interesting, and undoubtedly rare, use of postcard showing Adolf Hitler posing in front of the Eiffel Tower, originally mailed from German occupied Paris to Jersey with German stamp tied by FELDPOST datestamp for 9th January 1942. On arrival in Jersey, the German stamp was partly removed and Guernsey Wartime issue 1d and GB Postal Centenary 1d were applied for forwarding to Guernsey, and tied by "JERSEY (ST HELIERS) CHANNEL ISLANDS" datestamp for 20th January 1942. The sender was presumably working for the Red Cross, the card being addressed to "Patrick O'Brien c/o Red Cross Office", but of all the cards to choose to send to the "German Occupied" Channel Islands, a card showing Hitler seems an odd choice.
Scarce item of World War 2 and Channel Islands postal history.
