Charles P. Gruppe Original Pencil Drawing, Meissen, Virginia Gruppe, American:
This lovely little original pencil drawing is by the prominent Canadian American artist Charles Paul Gruppe (1860-1940). Depicting a view of Meissen, the famed German city that was the home of Meissen porcelain, the drawing measures 1 3/4 inches high by 3 inches in width. The sheet size is approximately 3 1/4 inches by 4 5/8 inches.Although unsigned, the drawing contains a pencil inscription on the reverse from Virginia Gruppe, Charles' daughter and a talented artist in her own right, attesting to the fact that this is her father's work. The drawing has a tear at the lower left that does not enter into the image (see photo 7), but is otherwise in very good condition. It is taped around the edges to its mat and housed in a period frame with minor wear and separation at the edges. The frame measures a total of 7 5/8 inches by 9 5/8 inches. We are offering this superb original impressionist pencil drawing of Meissen by a very significant Canadian American artist with a low opening offer and with , in the expectation that it will achieve its appropriate value.
