For sale is an antique Chicago Police star from the 20th century. This is a star commemorating a Retired Matron.
Police matrons were female police officers in the late 19th-mid 20th century, they handled issues involving women and children, women prisoners, vice and "public morals" enforcement. Since 1975, female Chicago Police officers have shared all the same roles as their male colleagues.
This star measures about 2 inches x 2 inches. The maker's mark on the reverse says "The CH Hanson Co Chicago." Please see photos for details.
