Chinese Cultural Revolution, Chairman Mao, Red Guard Flag, 1968 Authentic, 36x40

......

........Fantastic example of a rare propaganda piece.......Chairman Mao flag, original, old, not a repro or fake.........from one of the rural countryside camps where urban kids and adults were sent to learn from the peasants and later where the Red Guard was delegated............circa 1968 .............. .........

....

.....shows some minor wear due to age ..printing a bit faded, cotton thin in places, some tiny edge tears.......nothing major.............but totally intact and basically clean........made of cotton, measures 36 x 40 inches............. .........

....

..The first students to call themselves "Red Guards" in China were a group of students at the Tsinghua University Middle School who were given the name Red Guards in signing two big-character posters issued on May 25 and June 2 of 1966........

.........the beginning of an epic modern-day movement which in many ways led children to become soldiers in a peacetime setting, fighting against an enemy which in fact Confucius had told them to always and forever respect -- their parents, elders, teachers, leaders. A dark and yet imminently facsinating time in human history; another great paradox in the human scheme. .........

....

The Red Guard finally became so uncontrollable, they were ordered to the countryside to 'study' from the proletariat farmers there. But moreover it was a desperate move to rid the cities of the harm their millions had inflicted on the populace; so numerous the PLA army was nearly overrun.

.... .........

....

.........roughly translated top to bottom.......'Mao Ze Dong thought........ Bingyang country farm & study teacher revolution rebel headquarter Gula district division' .........

....

...

.....Chinese history is utterly stunning, terrible, deeply moving, and enigmatic from start to end........ few nations in world history can compare with the intrigue, convolutions, cultural movements and waves and eddies which spanned a continuous period of over 4000 years – few cultures can compare in terms of age, context, and continuous time span.............

....…..as well, the cultural manifestations, or perhaps more accurately 'upheavels' at times, of China were unique nation, not a facsimile of other similar actions elsewhere, and no matter some of it may have been dark and violent, as is with a great many things human, it cannot be viewed as anything but iconic in human history.........

.... .........

....

….........The Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside Movement was a policy instituted in the People's Republic of China in the late 1960s and early 1970s. As a result of the anti-bourgeois thinking prevalent during the Cultural Revolution, Mao Zedong declared certain privileged urban youth would be sent to mountainous areas or farming villages in order to learn from the workers and farmers there.

....…...

..........Mao's use of the policy sent down the Red Guards who had risen up at his beck and call, throwing China into chaos. Mao essentially used the "up to the mountains and down to the villages" to quell unrest and remove the embarrassment of the early Cultural Revolution from sight. …

.......

.......

.......The Revolution was launched in May 1966. Mao alleged that bourgeois elements were infiltrating the government and society at large, aiming to restore capitalism. He insisted that these "revisionists" be removed through violent class struggle. China's youth responded to Mao's appeal by forming Red Guard groups around the country. The movement spread into the military, urban workers, and the Communist Party leadership itself. It resulted in widespread factional struggles in all walks of life. …..............

.... USA and Int.......tracked airmail: FREE............. Express: $35......... if shipping is less, I'll refund the difference.........domestic or express shipping in China – please contact me

.................... many things in China are cheap, international postage is not one of them........ .....

……

……................ PLEASE DON'T PAY UNTIL INVOICED. ….......Payment due in 5 days..........I ship cheapest possible unless you want different...…

……..

……………CHINA POST or EMS....... ALL SHIPMENTS HAVE TRACKING....... I have a real job so I do my best to mail within 3 – 5 days. …........

……and I thought Canadian shipping was complex... Anyway, I do the best I can..... IF I CHARGE MORE THAN POSTAGE COSTS, I WILL REFUND THE DIFFERENCE, I'm not trying to make money on postage. In China, it's extremely hard to be exact.

..........STANDARD AIR MAIL might take 3 – 4 weeks to U.S., not including any customs delays. But I've mailed my first stuff from here to U.S. and air mail was two weeks to West coast; and tracking online works well..........

If you want expedited FAST SHIPPING, usually 7 – 10 days to U.S., not including customs – , I will provide a quote IN THE LISTING

.......... SHIPPING: some places in China have special shipping service, BUT OF COURSE here in Lanzhou the post office says they don't have it. I will double-check on this further, soon. ..

…...

……………………. .........I've been an seller for a long time. And I'm a good one. I have a large degree of integrity and do my utmost to ensure a fair and happy transaction. I've bought a lot of so I know the value of a problem-free purchase. So, please, trust me; I'm doing my best for both of us. Nobody wants hassles. ..

......I'm now back in China after living in the U.S. and Canada for a time. I know China well, although Lanzhou in NW China is new to me. Still, I know what to expect in regard to antiques and collectibles and shipping. Hence, we should have no problems. ..

... I avoid Chinese antiques and try to stay with safe things. I know how good the Chinese are at replication; and I learned the hard way like many people. But I never sold a fake saying it was otherwise. Never. But like I said, none of my stuff here is like that and if I am in doubt, I will tell you. Thanks. .......……............... .................... ....................

PAYMENT:Usual suggested methods.

SHIPPING SPEED: I give you shipping choices. Please don’t blame me for slow shipping if you choose the cheapest method. Also, I am a working full-time so I may need a few days to get it mailed.

REFUNDS: If it is an obvious mistake on my part, full or partial refunds are given. Shipping refunds dependent on the mistake.

GRADING QUALITY & ITEM DESCRIPTIONS: I always try to grade on the conservative side. I honor integrity and when I use words like "small, tiny, slight, minor", this means what it says. For most items I use the scale -- Mint, Near Mint, Very Fine, Fine, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor. I may add + or – signs to indicate more specifically. For example: Mint means never opened w/ perfect box; Very Good would be your average played with or used item, typical category of most vintage items before 1970. I rarely list anything in Fair or Poor.

..............IF it's a very old antique, I may not 'grade' it due to the context of extreme age......... I will then just describe it thoroughly.............. .....................
