Chinese Export Silver Wang Hing Dragon Motif Tea Pot C.1890 - Antique:
This beautiful antique Chinese export silver tea pot is marked by the noted silversmith Wang Hing. It dates from circa 1890. The tea pot would polish up nicely, however we have chosen to let it retain its aged patina. It is in great antique condition with no dings or dents and minimal surface wear or scratches. We have found 2 extremely tiny, less than 2mm each, wear spots on the rim of the tea spout. It is marked with “WH”, “90”, and Chinese characters. This highly detailed and hand worked tea pot has 4 dragons that are floating amidst stylized clouds. The dragons are so finely chased that their scales and claws are visible. The tea pot lid has a three dimensional horned dragon as its handle. It is attached with a threaded screw and original nut, however it is not firmly screwed down in place and we have chosen to let it be. The lid’s hinge is in excellent working order. The spout and handle of the tea pot are designed as segmented bamboo.
The tea pot measures approximately 5” tall. The diameter at the bottom of the tea pot measures approximately 3 ½”. From the tip of the spout to the outermost edge of the handle, the tea pot measures approximately 9 ½” long. It weighs 20.53 troy ounces.
