Chinese Late Qing (1892-1918) Cloisonné Unusual Chrysanthemum Floral Design Bowl For Sale
Chinese Late Qing (1892-1918) Cloisonné Unusual Chrysanthemum Floral Design Bowl
Very unusual finely executed Late Qing cloisonné bowl with large chrysanthemum design on base. This bowl is enameled blue on the interior. The exterior is cloisonné in budding pink, red, yellow and blue chrysanthemums in flowing green foliage against a wonderfully contrasting white background. The top is bounded by a rouletted blue band. What is outstanding is that the complete broad base is decorated with a large gold and blue chrysanthemum blossom against a red background. I have never seen a cloisonné bowl decorated in this manner. And I have seen a lot of cloisonné bowls in the last 50 years. To protect the design “CHINA” is hand written in white on the inside of the bowl. Based on the mark, the quality of work and the design I would date this piece as produced between 1892 and 1910. Very unusual and looks awesome sitting upside down on a table.
The piece is in near perfect condition aside from normal enamel grazing and oxidation that attests to the age of this piece.
This is a wonderful and spectacular bowl piece notable for the quality of the cloisonné work and the rare design on the base.
