Christmas Carols - Karl Schulte, Whitman 1938 & 1942 -illustrated By F.d. Lohman:
"Christmas Carols" is a vintage paperback book published by Whitman Publishing Company. It has copyright dates of 1938 and 1942. The carols were selected and arranged by Karl Schulte and the book is illustrated with black and white drawings by F. D. Lohman. The book measures approximately 10.5 inches high and 8 inches wide. There are 35 pages containing 17 carols witha full page black and white illustration for each carol.
We do not find any writing in the book.Itis printed on paper resembling that used for newspapers (though the paper seems a bit thicker). There is some discoloration that comes with age.
Itis in fragile condition. Itisbound by three staples. The pages remain bound together, butthe cover is detached from the top and middle staples. It is just barelyattached to the bottom staple. Along the center fold, there are holes in the cover where it was originally bound to the pages.
All that is present for a back cover is a 2.5 inch wide colored illustration of a candle. This is partly attached to the front cover near the bottom, but most of it is torn away from the front cover along the center seam. It seems likelythatat one time a proper back coverwould have protected the final page of the book, so we think that there is something missing here. The last pages, particularly pages 33-35, have tearswith pieces missing, creases, and soil stains.
There are some soil marks and stains, creases, and tears throughout the book. There are stains in the area of the staples. There are some stains on the front cover which are also visible inside the cover.
