Circa 1870 Large Nautical Sculpture Statue With Clock Of Verrazzano For Sale
ANTIQUE NAUTICAL, MARITIME SPELTER STATUE OF FLORENTINE NAVIGATOR, GIOVANNI DA VERRAZZANO. The Verrazaano Narrows Bridge connecting Brooklyn and Staten Island is named after this explorer, navigator. He discovered New York Harbour in 16th century commissioned by the French. Spelter sculpture is 31 inches tall with the base The base is 19 inches wide x 11-1/2 inches deep The base is of a decorative beveled marbleThe sculpture depicts Verrazzano holding the iron rung of a large anchor. He is leaning on the side of an anchor tie-down with thick wire cable depicting rope. Cable leading from the rung and wrapping around the anchor tie-town. Much of the roping is applied, not part of the sculpture. In the center of the tie-down is a french clock circa 1870's working condition . It was recently professionally overhauled . It is a 8-day clock, ringing on the hour and the half hour. It is a very mellow chime. The detail on the sculpture is exceptional . The coloring is a dark gun metal patina. It appears brown in the photos because I used flash to show detail, and it changes the color. There is some gold color on his belt.\Great item for anyone interested in American history, ships, or any maritime antique. It is very impressive.Condition is excellent. It has been in the same family for over 60 years. First time it is for sale Pick up only in NJ or I can suggest a shipper who may deliver. You would deal with him directly.
