Civil War 1863 Orig Letter - Union Major Discusses Arrest Of Col. - 1st Ny Vol.:
Original CIVIL WAR 1862 Letter (Handwritten and Signed) by Union Colonel-
1st New York Volunteers
Original Letter written and signed froma Union Major to a Union Colonel asking that if another Union Major (Major Clancy) is released from arrest due to disobedience, that Major Clancy immediately give his resignation from the New York 1st Volunteers. Contents of the letter are as follows:
"Lieutenant Montgomery just told me that if Major Clancy is released from arrest that he would immediately resign and would give into Liet Montgomery's hands his resignation for you. Liet. "M" requested of me to make this known to you.....Liet. Montgomery will hand me the resignation and I will accept and forward it, and withdrawing charges, release the Major from arrest. It will save trouble to all parties. J. Fred Pierson, Col. Commanding"
