A striking 1860’s Civil War era black velvet dress that has recently been de-accessioned from a museum collection. The bodice has full pagoda style sleeves that are trimmed with flounces of black lace and black beading. The neckline is trimmed with the same lace. The armscyes and neck are piped with black satin. The bodice is trimmed with black beaded decorative buttons. The bodice is lined with cotton and has a front hook and eye closure. The skirt is lined with cotton. The dress is in very good condition. There are some ghost spots in the photos and these spots are not present on the dress. There is one nickel size spot on one shoulder.
