Fairly sound era collection; stamps being printed during the war years include Sc #\'s 63, 65, 68, 73 ( the North ). Representing the South, C.S.A. Sc #\'s 7 & 13 ( both mint ). Sc #O22 ( Winfield Scott ) has been fortified, on the reverse, to prevent a slight tear from opening but apparently is not doing the trick; deem it flawed or with fault. Stamps not printed during the years from 1861-1865 are represented hereprimarily because of the personages they represent: Grant, Clay, Webster, Stanton, Lincoln, etc. all played pivotal roles during that interval of time.
The cover itself which is thoroughly authentic, one of the more popular in the Catalog of Civil War Era Covers, clearlydisplays the Everyman Southerner who, probably towards the middle years of the war, realized that the burden of succession ---especially over cotton and all it entailed---was a mistake. Contrary to some opinion, the man bemoaning his and the South\'s fate was not a depiction of Jefferson Davis. One other interesting note about the cover is the seal that was employedon the reverse side. As best of a close-up as possible could be seen in the lastin the series of images. Those who know Latin, may have an advantage here.
