This is a lot of items from an old Civil War Veteran from the Union Army. I have had this lot for many years and I\'m starting to clear out some stuff. I am not very good at research but the best I could find out this Veteran, Edward H. Smith was mustered in the Union Army in August 1861 and was discharged Oct. 4, 1864. He was 18 when he enlisted. He was in the 37th Regiment Company E of the Illinois Infantry. The Lot consist of the following.
1. Marriage book containing his marriage certificate of 19th Oct. 1871 to Margaret L Brown. ( He was approx. 34 years of age when he got married. The book\'s title is \"THE CHRISTIAN MINISTER\'S AFFECTIONATE ADVICE to A MARRIED COUPLE\" by Rev. James Bean, A.M. with select poems. The book has 128 pages.
2. Part of a ribbon and part of a G.A.R, medal with the back pin missing. Poor condition.
3. A note either from Bessie or to Bessie \"I want you to come home as soon as you can. Papa.\"
4. Small envelope with lace from which the note was located.
5. Note as follows: \"Edward H. Smith\'s wedding book-photo taken from damaged glass plate- retouched photo\".
6. Photograph on heavy paper measuring approx. 3 1/4\" by approx. 4 1/4\". Please look at the photo I took of the close-up. Notice the reverse picture of his US belt buckle.
