Civil War Soldier's letter written by H. Rounds Company H 3rd Regiment V.R.C. from Douglas Hospital, Washington, D.C. December 29th 1864
( His brother Sylvester Rounds was in the 17th Connecticut Volunteers )
to his brother Levi ....." I am still to work putting out the lights, that is not hard work for any one to walk around & turn out the gass "" I have not had a letter from Father since I come from furlough, nor I have never heard from Israel since he went to war "" I received a letter from Sylvester a few days ago "" we are getting good news from Sherman & Thomas "" I think this war can't last any longer than the coming summer "" nine months more & I will say good by to Uncle Sam "
