Civil War Union "us" Buckle & Section Of Belt From James River- Chesterfield, Va For Sale
Dug in historic Chesterfield County, Virginia, this group of relics includes a US belt buckle, a piece leather belt, and a belt keeper. Unfortunately, the buckle is missing all of its' hooks- it appears that they were deliberately cut off at some point in time. Both the section of belt and the keeper were dug in the mud along the banks of the James River. This environment preserved them and prevented the corrosive processes which would have otherwise acted on the relics. The keeper is in nearly pristine condition. The section of belt was soaked in ethylene glycol after its' recovery in order to replace the water and reconstitute the leather to an extent. This interesting trio of relics would make a nice addition to any collection.
