DescriptionLet me start by saying that the person I bought this from said thatthisis an early black powder flask. If it is such, then it is too large for individual use and therefore would probably have been used for small artillery such as a cannon. However, not being anything near an expert in original period war items such as this, I am open to correction. So if you have information that will more accurately identify this flask's use, please feel free to let me know. The flask appears to be hand wrought or hand forged since it actually has what looks like a pontilbreak-off areaon the bottom (see pictures). The flask stands about 12 3/8 inches high with the top screwed on tightly. It is about 2 1/2 inches wide at the base and the cylinder is about 1 7/8 inches in diameter. Without the top it stands about 9 inches high. The cap itself is about 4 inches high or long. The threads are in real nice shape and the top screws on and off without any difficulty whatsoever. There are some bangs and dents, and some mild tarnishing, otherwise and overall a wonderful piece. Please see all of the pictures.
