Clanny Miner's Lamp By Thomas & Williams Aberdare 19c.:
Clanny miner's lamp by Thomas & Williams Aberdare 19c.
After the introduction of the "Davy" safety lamp in the early nineteenth century in coal mines, efforts were soon made to improve it. The chief problem with the "Davy" lamp was its lack of light. An early improved version with glass round the flame to let out the light was invented by Dr William Clanny in 1813,of which this is one of hisimproved versions priduced later in theNineteenth centuryby Thomas & Williams of Aberdere.
This example is in near perfect condition with only surface rust on the mesh which is otherwise in excellent condition. It dates from the second half of the nineteenth century. Not as rare as the original "Davy" but still a difficult and desirable lamp and hard to find in this condition.Measurements:Height 10"
