Prominent American Folk Artist, Cody Foster, expanded his line of decorative items with gorgeous reproductions copied from antique pieces in his own personal collection. From his fertile mind and imagination comes this beautiful ~Santos Bust on Swag Base.~ This piece is part of Cody\'s extremely popular line of home décor, holiday folk art, and decorations produced by his amazing studio, ~Cody Foster & Co.~ (formerly known as ~Backporch Friends~). It is a genuine, authorized reproduction of Cody Foster\'s original art work. This piece is crafted from compo resin to replicate hand-carved wood; hand painted and decorated in muted colors; and lovingly aged and distressed. In fact, this looks just like the actual pieces so wildly coveted by collectors of religious artifacts.

This wonderful Bust is fashioned exactly like an antique piece. She is a reproduction of a beautifully worn, antique bust of Mary or one of the Saints. She is painted in soft, muted sepia and flesh tones and perfectly distressed to replicate decades of devotion and wear.A substantial, heavy piece ~The total height of this Bust is approximately 11-inches. The head and shoulders are 9½-inches tall and 4¾-inches wide. Her rectangular base measures 7¼-inches by 5-inches and is 1½-inches high.

The craftsmanship of this piece is incredible. It looks just like very old statuary! And, its vintage coloring; soft, matte finish; and design are wonderful! The Santos has a long, graceful neck and finely sculpted head and face. Her skin is pale alabaster in tone. Her hair is painted dark brown with molded texture. She has very finely painted light brown eyebrows and eyelashes. She has brown, downcast eyes that have been inset into the bust. Her rosebud mouth and cheeks have a rosy blush. Her shoulder are painted a deep blue-green. The Bust’s base is a raised rectangle that has been decoratively scalloped around the bottom edge. The base is painted deep red, and the scallops are vintage ivory edged in red. The ivory painting forms the swag design on all four sides of the base. A simply lovely piece!

”Santo (English: Saint) are various religious art forms found in colonized parts of Spain consisting of wooden or ivory statues that depict various saints, angels or one of the personages of the Holy Trinity. A Santero refers to a wood-carver who makes the image, but has also come to be known as someone who collects Santo images either as a religious devotion, artistic hobby, or both.

The practice of creating Santo objects began in Spain, where mannequin-style religious images were commonly vested in ornate religious clothing, often expensive and funded by religious devotees. An early known example is the 1555 statue of Infant Jesus of Prague. Customarily, wigs, jewels, crowns, and variousaccessories were also added onto the image, a tradition still carried today.”

\"As a little boy, Foster had spent much of his spare time with his grandmothers, both of whom created crafts as gifts for family and friends. Only occasionally did they sell to shops or at craft shows, but when they did, Foster was usually in tow. They kept their grandson out of mischief by teaching him to thread a needle and sew rag dolls. \'I remember sitting at this one really boring craft show and [beginning to doodle],\' he says. \"When I got home, I made Sunshine Suzy-Q, my first doll.

Foster began selling his creations by the time he was a sophomore in high school, doing craft shows in small communities in northern Nebraska and in larger areas such as Omaha and Rapid City, S.D. He admits to playing hooky from school to get ready for the shows. As a high school senior, he was approached by a wholesale rep who wanted to represent him; the rep quickly got him into his first wholesale show in metropolitan Kansas City just two weeks after his high school graduation.
