This finely carved Chinese fisherman is a typical example of the Chinese artisan carvers of the time. As was told me when purchased in the late 50\'s in Hong Kong, it probably dated back to the mid 40\'s, but have no way of knowing. The wood is a dark hardwood, that has a crack from bottom of the fisherman\'s frock to the beard. There is also a crack in the base of about an inch. The seller indicsated this was not unusual for the carvings of this time period. The hat and the fish on the end of the pole are also nicely carved. The fisherman stands 13\" high, with the base4.25\" across. the hat is 4\" X 3.25\". The fish is 2.75\" long. The weight is 2.0 lbs.. There is a very small scratch on the back, but no other dents or scratches. I think collectors of old Chinese carving art, would truly enjoy this piece........
