Civil War - Confederate, blacksmith made Bowie knife with a period brown leather sheath. It is quite a fighting knife and feels good in the hand. The long double edged blade was forged from a file (file marks can be seen along center ridge line)andexhibits signs of usein the form of a few small nicks along the edge, and wear from sharpening.The bladeis just over 11-1/4 inches long and overall size is 16-1/4 inches. The handle is a fist full of hardwood that may have it's original finish w/stain and lacquer, whichis wearing away also. The big, thick piece of wood is fastened to the tang with only one pin, but is nice and tight with no movement and it has not been wedged with anything to help tighten it. The iron guard has just a little wiggle but solid. The blade has been cleaned, as stated, but they missed a few spotsand you can see the old, original patina near the tang. The guard has never been cleaned so it still retains its original, old dark patina. The brown leather sheath is outstandingand contoured to fit this knife. Nice supple leather, all the stitching is intact, the sewn-in-belt-loop was made to accept a belt up to 1-3/4" wide.The leathershows a nice, evenwear consistent withthe time period mentioned.

It's not the most eye-catching confederate knife ever made, as a matter of fact it's a little ugly, but when you hold it in your hand and wave it arounda little, you cantell it's agood, solidfighting knife.
