***** Corgi Model Collection - Military Airplane *****

In November 1950 during the Korean War, the MiG-15 appeared over Korea and threatened American air superiority. The MiG-15 was 100 miles per hour faster than the F-80C and 300 miles per hour faster than the F-51D used. F-86A Sabres from the 4th Fighter Group were rushed to Korea in November/December 1950, and immediately demonstrated their superiority over the MiG-15. Several 4th Group Sabres flew close air support and armed reconnaissance air-to-ground missions in January 1951. Ordnance consisted of two 5\" HVARs in addition to the normal six 50-calibre machine guns. These were experimental missions that confirmed the Sabre\'s air-to-ground shortcomings at that time.

The 25th Fighter Interceptor Squadron included a number of exchange pilots, none of them more famous than Maj. John Glenn., who scored three kills in the Sabre, justifying the aircraft\'s huge and gaudy nickname - these kills never appeared in the USAF\'s official records, however.

This hard to find 1:72 model comes with a nice plastic display stand, and a set of optional landing gears. It can be displayed in-flight or on-the-ground. This model has never been out of the box since I bought it except for taking the pictures. However, there are two small loose pieces in the box (see last pic). One came from the right wing tip that could be glued back. The other might or might not be part of the model. The price is marked down for that reason even though the model itself still looks as good. It will be sold \"As-Is\" with no return.

Scale model for adult collectors, not suitable for children under 14 years of age. Some models may contain fine detailed points or edges.
