. LIMITED EDITION NUMBER 1885 of 2800 Worldwide The item for sale is one 1/72nd scale Corgi North American B25B Mitchell medium bomber. It is finished in the livery of the aircraft flown by Lt .Col. Jimmy Doolittle, on the legendary "Doolittle Raid" against Japan, April 18th, 1942. The raid was the United State's answer to Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor four months earlier. Sixteen B25 bombers were launched from the decks of the US Navy aircraft carrier Hornet to strike mainland Japan. Lt. Col. Doolittle's plane was the first over Japan, and he dropped his load of four incendiary bombs on a factory in Tokyo, Japan. The bombers were supposed to fly to safe haven in China, but bad weather precluded this, and most crash landed in China, some in Japanese held territory. Doolittle had his crew bail out in China, his aircraft then crashing into a mountainside. Doolittle and his crew survived, made contact with the Chinese, and eventually returned home safely. The mission did not inflict heavy damage to Japan, but was a huge morale booster for the United States. The mission is now legendary. Corgi's B25B "Doolittle Raider" is finished in the colors of Lt. Col. Doolitle's aircraft. It is highly detailed, including crew figures, optional position landing gear, opening bomb bay, and a display stand.
