Crawford County Mo. Two Letters Dated 1864 Civil War Era Father To Son For Sale
Two hand written letters, dated 2/1864 & 6/1864, from Thomas A. Whitmire, Crawford Co. Mo. to his sons. Both letters have messages to a couple of different names all sons.Mostly describe family events, health problems, crops and such, however one letter goes on in length about news of the war, mentioning "nasty Rebels" taking posts in Arkansas and Grant and Lee battling in Richmond. Also mentions Corinth and the Fort Pillow Massacre where all the African-American troops were killed in April of that year.Both letters are one page folded in half with writing on four sides.
