The Lid is Fully Hallmarked English Sterling Silver with a Fine Armorial Crest of a Viscount’s Coronet Engraved on the Top
Here is an antique Cut Crystal Dressing Table Jar with polished faceted sides made by the noted London silversmith, Thomas Whitehouse, and retailed by Allen at number 37 The Strand in London..
This elegant Dressing Table Jar was made in 1889. The lid is made in fully hallmarked English Sterling Silver engraved with a fine armorial crest of a Viscount’s coronet.
This lovely crystal jar has nine polished facets. The inside of the silver lid is cork lined and held in place by a sterling silver washer and nut.

The Crystal Dressing Table Jar is three and a half inches tall (3.5 ins / 9 cms) and one and a half inches in diameter (1.5 ins / 4 cms).
This lovely jar is in overall very good condition with only some light bottom wear consistent with its age and usage.
The hallmarks shown above on the lid are the maker’s mark “TW” for the noted silversmith, Thomas Whitehouse, the lion passant guarantee mark for English sterling silver, the letter “O” the date letter for 1889, the leopard’s head town mark for London and the duty mark the head of Queen Victoria.
The washer shows the correct partial hallmarks and is also stamped “Allen 37 Strand”.
