Daguerreotype Man With Guitar Incredible Image (with Case) For Sale
super rare early image of a man with a guitar, most likely civil war era, but i cannot date the image, and i am not an expert on dags at all.
the image is in really nice shape, and fairly easy to see for a dag. i tried to get the best angle on the light so the camera would catch the image strongly. you can see the edges around the oval frame in the image some rainbow/emulsion(?).
the case is 3.75" x 3.5"
i purchased this from a major americana sale house roughly 10 years ago and paid a ton for it.
i collect music related photos, but i know very little about dags, and this is the only one i've ever handled. i have no technical knowledge of what to check for, but the image is definitely absolutely a dag (not a tintype nor an ambro). i don't know if anything has been done to it in terms of restoration, but it looks untouched, especially as the case is pretty ratty and definitely hasn't been restored at all. (the case design is also pretty beautiful).
