Succor Creek Owyhee Picture Jasper lapidary from Oregon. Stones vary from approx. 3.70\" - 4.20\" across and weighs approx. 1 lb. 3.3oz. Shown wet.

Jasper, anaggregateof microgranularquartzand/orchalcedonyand other mineral phases,[1][2]is anopaque,[3]impure variety ofsilica, usuallyred,yellow,brownorgreenin color; and rarelyblue. The common red color is due toiron(III)inclusions. The mineralaggregatebreaks with a smooth surface and is used for ornamentation or as agemstone. It can be highly polished and is used for vases,seals, andsnuff boxes. Thespecific gravityof jasper is typically 2.5 to 2.9.[4]A green variety with red spots, known asheliotrope (bloodstone), is one of the traditionalbirthstonesfor March. Jaspilite is abanded iron formationrock that often has distinctive bands of jasper.
