DescriptionA MAGNIFICENT JEWEL - OLD MINE CUT AND ROSE CUT DIAMONDS AND A CENTRAL NATURAL SAPPHIRE ADORN THIS PERIOD EDWARDIAN NECKLACE IN SILVER TOPPED 14-16K GOLD DATING TO C1890-1910.This is a magnificent antique Edwardian jewel!!! Absolutely the finest quality. This necklace is in the Negligee style that so characterizes the Edwardian period with its two pendant chains of differing lengths. The central medallion is absolutely stunning with a central faceted natural mined sapphire of the most gorgeous blue! Surrounding this are 8 absolutely beautiful Old Mine Cut Diamonds. These diamonds all match and are original to the piece in my opinion. The diamonds are set in individual milegrain border 5 sided settings. Overall this creates a magical star shaped design that is stunning. Attached to the medallion are two knife edge bars. I love the fact that these are articulated. At the level of the second diamond on each bar they are articulated so the bottom portion of the pendants will always hang straight - a wonderful detail indicating the high quality of the piece. The knife edge bars contain collet set rose cut diamonds. At the terminal of each pendant is a teardrop medallion with two Old Mine Cut diamonds set in millegrain border. The piece is silver topped 14-16K gold (probably 16K) as was the style of the period. The necklace closes with a wonderful rectangular clasp with a brick like motif engraved into it. There is also a safety clasp on the catch. The craftsmanship and design of the piece is just classic Edwardian and oh so stunning! The jewel features approximately .70 carats of beautiful sparkling antique Diamonds with the fire that only antique gems possess, set in a truly extraordinary setting. There are 8 OMC diamonds in the center of approximately 5 points each for a total of .40 Ct\'s. The diamonds in the terminals are approximately 4 and 9 points each for a total of .26 Ct\'s in the terminals. There are approximately 5 points of Rose Cut Diamonds within the knife edge chains. The central natural sapphire is over 1/3 carat. The piece is in excellent period condition with no damage to the metalwork. The gems are all in excellent period condition. The piece is not hallmarked but tests for 14-16K gold. The medallion to the end of the tear shaped pendants is 4.8 cm (1 7/8 inches) long. The central medallion is 14 mm in diameter. The chain is 17 inches (43 cm) long. The piece weighs 5.0 grams. The jewel comes from a wonderful New York estate.This is a stunning antique Edwardian jewel with great drama and style. The combination of the extraordinary gold work and beautiful cut diamonds and perfect sapphire is mesmerizing. Together they create a jewel worthy of the finest collection. It is so immensely wearable either during the day or at the most glamorous affair.
