HERE IS A BRIEF STORY ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF THE DON CARLOS PIPE BRAND:
Bruto Sordini was born in the small village of Cagli, Italy, where his world-famous Don Carlos pipes are currently being made. He's in his mid-forties, married with three children. He first got into pipe making about 25 years ago. At that time, he was studying law, but slowly and surely he developed a passion for the artistry of making a work of art out of a piece of wood. After having worked for years and years for major pipe making establishments in the area of Pesaro, Bruto decided to get more independent, but not before spending time carving for his long-time close friend Giancarlo Guidi in the early days of Ser Jacopo. After a few years, Bruto took off and started the Don Carlos Pipe Company.
Don Carlos pipes are completely hand crafted from briar wood which has been carefully chosen and seasoned outdoors. Bruto seasons his own briar in the grounds of his home and carves every pipe himself. The classic and free form shapes are always custom originals and bear homage to Brutos' high regard of a master Italian pipe maker from the early 1900's. Bruto Sordini's beautiful pipes have a huge following in the USA, Germany and in his native Italy. Bruto normally makes 1,500 pipes a year.
In November 2002 Bruto had near fatal motorcycle accident. He has recently returned to making pipes but his output is less than it was. So supplies are limited. He has still not completely healed and may need another operation. This has not diminished his love of pipe making or of opera.About this beautiful Don Carlos pipe: You are offerding on a NEW & UNSMOKED condition hand carved Don Carlos straight grain, "2 Note" graded "Long Shank Rhodesian" shaped pipe.
