Dozens Of World War I Soldier Letters, Military Photos & Cap Orland California For Sale
Dozens of WORLD WAR I Soldier Letters, Military Photos and Capfrom Orland, California
This sale lot consists of a shoebox full of letters all of which were sent to or from a soldier during World War One, some photographs and other ephemera connected to the same soldier as well as his World War 1 Veteran’s Cap, his wedding portrait and California wedding license dated November 1919.
The letters are extremely interesting as the soldier had influenza during the great WWI epidemic and was hospitalized for monthis for the problem. During that period he wrote very frequently to his girlfriends and future wife describing in detail the circumstances within army hospitals treating the influenza problem. He sent home photos of himself and his buddies in the Machine Gun Battalion and poses in various World War I American uniforms.
The letters are mostly still contained in their original envelopes which in some cases have the stamps torn off. There is even a pass for the soldier in question from Company A of the 47th Machine Gun Battalion dated September 6, 1918.
The lot also includes the marriage portrait of the couple who wrote the letters to and from Orland, Glenn County California, and their marriage license which specifies that they are of the white race. The cap is in outstanding very fine condition and the letters and other material are exactly as shown in our excellent photographs.
