I sold a piece very similar to this a few years ago and a friend advised me that it was probably white machine chantilly lace.
It is very decorative, but I cannot say whther it is as described above. I have a couple more pieces, so would love you to tell me if you know!
The piece is68" x 60"with a heavily decorated border all around.
This makes me think that it may have been a crinoline shawl, very popular in chantilly between the 1850-60's period, whilst the skirts became larger and larger!
However, it could equally be a beautiful veil or a cover of some kind.
A shawl seems the most likely, but it would make a magnificent veil if the bride doesn't mind minor areas of soft discolouration.
I have also found a sprinkling of very small holes that could be repaired.
Chantilly lace is usually silk. This doesn't feel like silk, but it doesn't feel like cotton either. Maybe a mix of both! It can't be anything else!!
An intensely decorated piece to use as you wish.
