Dublin Sterling - West & Son -1918 - Stag Hunt Chase Scene - Tea Or Coffee:
Sterling Tea or Coffee Pot - West & Son - Dublin
We are pleased to offer a highly unusual tea or coffee pot created by one of the premier Irish silversmithing firms of this last century, West & Son. Due to the style of their hallmark, the creation date is roughly around 1918This pot is in typical baluster shape, decorated in a florid, highly decorative rococo style - a very elaborate scene of a single stag being chased (attacked?) by two very lean hounds, while birds are dive-bombing them all. There is a single cartouche with the profile of an Irish Wolfhound, and the letter 'G' in Gothic script under a crown. The handle is surprisingly stark for the animated style of this pot. It is woven in what looks like rattan... and the wrapping is coming loose and will need to be replaced or repaired. There are five tiny (1/16th of an inch... maybe) diagonal nicks on the rim area of the lid, and for the life of me, I can't figure out what made them. Considering the exquisite workmanship, I can't imagine that it would be a manufacturing oversight. Other than the issues mentioned, this pot has no dents or deformities... no scratches, and it sits nice and level. The lid hinge is tight and moves easily. The interior is quite clean, needing only a good wash. And all in all, this is a magnificent piece of workmanship.... literally stunning. I've had it sitting in my office for several months now... and every time I go by, I can't help but pick it up and marvel at the riveting woodland scene. This pot measures 10 1/2 inches tall from tabletop to the lid, and 7 inches from handle to spout.
This pot weighs a very nice 775 grams or 24.92 troy ounces.
I carefully wash and wet-polish every item by hand so I can objectively judge the condition of the items I am offering. Thispiece was obviously treatedwith great care and respect.
Please view the pictures carefully. I generally take my photographs outside in sunlight to accurately depict the colors and conditions of the items I am offering. If you see any discolorations or other anomalies that would indicate damage, it is either the sun, the clouds, the trees, or me.
I try to fully and faithfully disclose any irregularities I find but I am far from perfect and some things may escape my detection. Also, when damage (no matter how minute) I try to make sure that it is clearly depicted in the photos.

The sterling that I am currently listing are not my property and as such, I am unable to make a 'deal' or entertain a 'Best Offer' scenario. They belong to a friend who is in the precious metals business. He has a warehouse that is stockpiled with sterling items that he has purchased over the last 28 years of business, including more than 100 different silver flatware sets. With the soaring price of silver, he had decided to send them all to the smelter to be melted down.
Instead, I convinced him to let me try to offer them on so that they would not be destroyed. I know that there are silver lovers out there that wish to harken back to the days of genteel dining and gracious living. Besides, I have come to genuinely appreciate anything that is older than me and still survives.
Due to recent complications withInternational buyers and shipping policies, I will only ship via Express Mail International with full insurance. I WILL NOT alter the final offer price on the required customs forms.
