A FANTASTIC EARLY 18TH CENTURY PAINT DECORATED WILLIAM AND MARY PERIOD, EARLY 18TH CENTURY HANGING PENNSYLVANIA GERMAN PAINT DECORATED HANGING CUPBOARD IN OLD GROWTH WHITE PINE IN THE BEST OLD GRUNGY BARN RED PAINTED SURFACE WITH ADDED FLOWERS AND TULIPS AS WELL AS INITIALS. PROBABLY PENNSYLVANIA, CIRCA 1710-1740.
A GREAT EARLY CUPBOARD WITH FULL MORTISE AND TENDON CONSTRUCTION. IT HAS A SAWN PANEL DOOR THAT STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL HAND WROUGHT IRON SNIPE HINGES. THE PANELED FRONT AND SIDES STILL RETAIN THEIR ORIGINAL APPLIED MOLDED INSERTS AS WELL.
THE APPLIED TOP IS ORIGINAL AS IS THE ATTACHED TOP CROWN MOLDINGS. THE BOTTOM BASE MOLDING IS ORIGINAL (except the right side).
IT STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL HAND WROUGHT IRON HANGER ON THE BACK WITH HUGE ROSE HEAD NAILS.
The entire piece still retains most of its original wooden pegs and nails.
THE PAINT DATES TO AROUND THE EARLY 19TH CENTURY. IT IS A DARK RED BASE AND THE MOLDINGS ARE A DARK GREEN. THE WHITE DECORATION OF TULIPS AND FLOWERS IS WELL DONE.
IT HAS INITIALS ON THE DOOR AS WELL.
THE PAINT ON THIS CUPBOARD IS FANTASTIC. THE COLOR IS MUCH BETTER IN PERSON THAN THE PHOTOS SHOW.
THE PIECE WAS PROBABLY PAINTED AS A \"WEDDING\" PIECE IN THE EARLY 19TH CENTURY.
Often, an earlier piece of furniture was \"freshened\" up in the late 18th or early 19th century and was given as a New gift, much like silver and pewter being engraved at a later time.
All the backboards are original.
The size is fantastic being only 24\" tall, 17\" wide and 11\" deep.
The wood is early growth Pine.
Minor damages and losses to the paint as seen. There are some added screws and nails in the back for tightening. The original lock appears to be missing and as stated above, the right bottom side molding is an old replacement.
