Early Circa 1755 Sevres Porcelain Compote Centerpiece Elegant & Perfect No Res For Sale
EARLY CIRCA 1755 SEVRES PORCELAIN COMPOTE CENTERPIECE ELEGANT & PERFECT NO RES
I have been very fortunate to have been able to purchase a single owner estate of very beautiful and choice, mostly French Empire period to Napoleon III porcelains, circa 1800 to 1870. All of them will be listed here on over the next week or so. Please see my other listings for more out of this strong grouping of antiques. All sold with .
This listing is for an early, signed elaborate beautifully painted Sevres centerpiece compote. The compote is made in two parts with a bolt and nut holding the two pieces together. The compote measures just under 10 inches high and just over 10 inches wide at 25 by 26 cm.
The compote base starts with 8 sides which turns into 16 concave fluted vertical ribs. Each of those flutes is painted with a different flower reserve. The detail of these painted flowers is superb. Above the base is the bowl with 24, this time convex, vertical floral decorated vertical ribs. These ribs turn into convex s curves decorated with gold bell flowers.
Both base and compote are further enhanced by much heavy gold. The rim is gold enhanced acanthus leaves. The inside of the bowl has 6 large flower hand painted reserves. This really Sevres at it's best. The sophisticated design coupled with superb painting makes this what makes Sevres porcelain so special. The base is signed with the blue under glaze Sevres mark with a "C" inside dating the compote to 1755.
The condition is excellent. There is no damage with minimum gold wear and absolutely no restoration. A beautiful piece of porcelain.
