SUPERBLY EXECUTED FIGURE OF CHRIST IN THE CROSS. LATE 19TH CENTURY.

Description:
Superbly executed late 19th century carved faux ivory figure of Christ in the cross, probably French. The quality of the carver’s work is made evident by the realism achieved in the expression of exhaustion, and the heaviness of the limbs, in a moment close to the death of the Christ. The detail of the carving, even in the back of the figure, which would normally not show, is masterful, and the condition, excellent.

Condition:
Excellent condition, with no damages or restorations other than a small loss of material in the back of one of the hands (illustrated), occult when in normal display of the figure. Please, see the attached pictures for a full illustration of its condition.
