EXCEPTIONAL JAPANESE GOLDEN AGE SATSUMA VASE SIGNED KINKOZAN MEIJI PERIOD c1880
A very fine quality nineteenth century ‘Golden Age’ Satsuma vase signed by the great master Kinkozan, the piece dates from the Meiji period c1880. The vase finely painted with Geisha attended by youngsters in a garden setting, a mountainous landscape beyond. The opposing panel painted with Geisha and samurai engaging in a tea ceremony at the side of a lake within a landscape (probably the Countryside around Kyoto), the two panels divided by gilt and enamel florets and gilt diaper, the shoulders with stylised ki-ku mons surrounded by stylised floral scroll, the neck painted with gilt thunder pattern as shown. For a discussion on the artist accompanied by illustrations with comparable features see ‘Kinkozan 1645-1927’ beginning p135 within ‘Satsuma- Masterpieces from the Worlds Important Collections’ by Louis Lawrence. This vase I offer here stands 8.8cm tall with Kinkozan signature on the side, it is in perfect condition with no damage (small/ tiny/ minute traces of gilt wear) and is as clearly pictured.
