Exquisite Chinese Porcelain Dragon Vase Museum Quality Qing Dynasty Antique:
EXQUISITEANTIQUE CHINESEPORCELAIN DRAGON VASE
Superb, museum quality Chinese meiping vase. Depicting a magnificent gilt dragon wrapped around the body of the vase in high relief, soaring above an auspicious golden carp amongst lively splashing waves. Superb, intricate detail, with powerful countenance. Hundreds of minute raised scales, sinuous whiskers, swirling flames, and sharp claws. An important example of the four clawed dragon, known as the Mang, which was reserved for Imperial Princes and certain high ranking nobility. This vase waslikelyproduced by the Imperial kilns at the request of the Emperor for one of his most highly esteemed court members.
The spectacular gilt imagery rises upon a sublime blue sgraffito ground, which upon close inspection reveals an intricately hand etched scrollwork pattern and minute age related crazing. Utterly sublime. The overall design is both creatively artistic and finely technical, quite perfectly balanced and rendered. Would have taken several masterartisans of the court countless hours to produce such a magnificent and intricately decorated example. Quite truly the finest Chinese vase that we have ever offered. An astounding piece.
Marked on the underside with an incised Qianlong seal mark within the recessed foot. The vase is in excellent antique condition with just minor wear to the gilding and raised areas commensurate with age. The vase is in need of a good cleaning, which we have elected to leave up to the taste of the fortunate new owner, as some collectors prefer this patina. Of significant size, measuring approximately 15 inches tall.Displays in magnificent fashion anddraws attention from all the way across the room. Very elegant in the traditional Chinese aesthetic.
Thismuseum quality vase would make an exquisite centerpiece for the most discriminating collector of the world class Chinese antiques. An exceedingly rare masterwork representing the pinnacle of Chinese porcelain.
