Exquisite C1900 B&d Bawo & Dotter Elite Limoges Pink Cabinet Plate, Raised Gold:
On the reverse of this lovely pink and gold plate is the red decorator's backstamp number 9a of Elite Works, also known as Bawo & Dotter, one of the great Limoges firms at the turn of the last century. According to the third edition of the Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston, this mark was in use between 1900 and 1914.
A small green backstamp with the words "Elite L" over the word France also appears: this is the white ware mark indicating the Elite factory produced the porcelain. It dates from 1900 onward.
The plate is beautifully hand painted, in keeping with the exceptionally high quality that made the company's porcelain so famous, and so coveted. The pattern features beautiful pink roses linked by a circle of green leaves and raised gold scrollwork that is a pleasure to touch. Within the circle are small pale green outlines of leaves that fade into the plate's pure white center.
The plate is 8 1/2 inches in diameter and in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, scratches, nicks, stains, repairs, crazing or significant wear.
Please check the photos very carefully - they are part of the description.
