AN EXTREMELY FINE EARLY 18TH CENTURY PENNSYLVANIAGERMAN PAINT DECORATED BLANKET BOX IN ITS ORIGINAL FOLK ART PAINTEDDECORATION. WHITE WOOD FIRST GROWTH PINE, PROBABLY THE READING AREA, BERK'S COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA.
WONDERFUL OLD ORIGINAL PAINT DECORATEDBLANKETCHEST IN FREEHAND DECORATION.
A GREAT PIECE OF PENNSYLVANIA GERMAN FOLK ART.
Great early construction. All hand planed Pine and White wood. Every one of the original hand wrought 18th century nails survive as well as the original wooden pegs. GREAT DOVETAILED CONSTRUCTION.
THE PAINTED DECORATION IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST. COMPLETELY ORIGINAL WITH NO TOUCH UP OR RESTORATION. THE COLORS ARE EXTREMELY BRIGHT AND VIVID.DONE IN THE EARLY STYLE, THE SIDES ARE A DEEP OX-BLOOD RED. THE TOP IS IN A DEEP WINDSOR GREEN WITH A BLACK FREE HAND PAINTED "TREE OF LIFE" DECORATION. THE FRONT IS ALSO IN THE SAME WINDSOR GREEN WITH A BLACK "TREE OF LIFE". IN THE CENTER IS A WONDERFUL POLYCHROME FLORAL DESIGN WHICH INCLUDES A VERY RARE "YELLOW MUSTARD PEAR".
GREAT DOVETAILED CONSTRUCTION. IT RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL APPLIED BASE MOLDINGS AS WELL AS ITS ORIGINAL APPLIED LID MOLDINGS. THE ORIGINAL WROUGHT IRON STRAP HINGES STILL SURVIVE AS WELL AS THE BEST ORIGINAL WROUGHT IRON LOCK PLATE ON THE FRONT. (The original lock itself is missing as well as the large iron hasp). It also has its original wrought iron side carry handles.

Painted examples similar to this, have been attributed to the Reading Area, Berk's Country, Pennsylvania from the early 18th century.
