Early 1900s Xmas Stocking. Molded Toys. German Glass Christmas Ornament For Sale
Christmas Stocking, molded with toys on the front.
Early 1900sGerman Glass Christmas Tree Ornament.
Originating from the legend of St. Nicholas.
We celebrated St. Nicholas in our home on December 6th, and we used our dad's stockings.
Ours were too small, or so we thought, andSt. Nick always did surprise us with orange, nuts, and candy.
This is a glass example, and exquisitely molded.
The texture of the stocking is so realistic in the molding.
You can just see the knitting of the threads.
And molded on the front as indents are toys.
Christmas elf, horn, doll, book, toy sword, and even a little dog at the bottom.
Really neat with the detailed indented toys.
Bright pink indented, and molded toys.
Tiny bit of blue at bottom for the tip of the sock.
4.25" and in very good condition, with tiny wear inside of top of ornament.
Glass ornament blown in Germany and hand painted there in the period before World War I.
This was a cottage industry, a means for the Germans to make money during the winter when they could not work in the fields. The sons and fathers blew the ornaments. The girls and mom would silver the ornaments inside, and then individually paint the ornaments, and grandma would take to the train station in the spring when the others were back in the fields. Then they went to the sea coast, put on ships, and arrived in New York to be delivered across the country, and we used them to decorate our trees. The origin is Lauscha, Germany.
We are an older couple who just have to downsize. These ornaments did not fit on the trees this year, and it seems senseless to keep them in boxes in the back closet. So hopefully new caretakers can be found for these German ornaments being listed tonight. There is nothing wrong These being listed today arein very good shape. They arevintage, notreproductions. I guarantee that. I start all my sales at .99 cents as it is an sale and I just never cared when I went to live sale and thesaleeer started very high, and then spent time backing down to get a offer.
